Ravena eyes 4th Gold in SEA Games

Former Ateno star Kiefer Ravena gunning for the 4th gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games basketball after been selected in the Gilas Pilipinas Roster on Tuesday. Ravena was the 12-man line-up for the 2017 edition for the SEA Games to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 19-30.

After the announcement Ravena was more than happy saying –

“I’m very honored. I have the chance to get my fourth gold medal and be the only one to do it, so I guess hopefully, I get to repay the trust that coach Chot (Reyes) has given me, especially that I’m one of the newcomers in the team,”

The 23-year-old Filipino basketball maven had already achieved two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Being in the SEAG roster list is definitely an honor, particularly because he was a late inclusion to the Gilas Pilipinas team.

Also, having participated in the SEA tournament playing for Ateneo when he was 17 year old for the first time, Ravena is ready to make history while representing the country.

“It’s been six years since I first played in the SEA Games. I was 17 years old then with coach Norman (Black). I’m very thankful for the opportunity that until now, I get a chance to represent a country in such a prestigious competition like the SEA Games,” he added.

Ravena is familiar with the dribble-drive system and rhyming with the system will not be of much concern. Further he will be the veteran player compared to the young Philippine team. Ray Parks and Kevin Ferrer are other players with multiple SEA Games experience. Both Ferrer and Parks are targeting their third SEAG basketball gold.
