Matthew Wright’s 4 triples help Gilas beats Chinese Taipei

Matthew Wright exploded with four three-pointers of his 17 points coming from the bench to lead Gilas Pilipinas in overpowering Chinese Taipei A in the William Jones Cup on Sunday.

Unknown to the opponents, Wright drilled in crucial three-pointers to enable Gilas Pilipinas to spread the ball. Wright’s stroke perfectly fit with the penetration of guard Kiefer Ravena, who scored 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds and four passes. Aside from the combination of Wright and Ravena in scoring, Chrian Standhardinger had a double-double night with 17 points and 15 rebounds as Gilas attacked their opponents inside-out.

Gilas started superbly as the team never looked back when taking a 10-point lead. Though Chinese Taipei attempted to rally several times, Gilas Pilipinas was smart enough to weather any comeback.

Gilas will next face Chinese Taipei B on Monday, July 17 at 3:00 PM.
