Manny Pacquiao demands WBO to take action on GAB’s letter

The world champion Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao doesn’t want the boxing industry “dying” because of any unfair decision and so has urged the World Boxing Organization (WBO) to take action on the letter sent by Games and Amusement Board (GAB) to investigate the judges’ decision on the welterweight match between Pacquiao-Horn.

On Tuesday chairman of GAB Abraham Mitra and two GAB commissioners wrote to WBO President Francisco Varcarcel asking to review “battle of Brisbane” thoroughly –

“While we respect the decision, we are constrained to request for a thorough review by the WBO for possible miscalls of the referee where some deductions were not made and of the judges in their judging that have caused varying opinions on their objectivity,”

To which Pacquiao on Wednesday said –

“WBO should take appropriate action on the letter sent by the Games and Amusement Board so as not to erode the people’s interest in boxing,”

Although Pacquiao has accepted the loss but as a leader and fighter he says – “I have the moral obligation to uphold sportsmanship, truth and fairness in the eyes of the public”

The GAB agency regulates and supervises professional sports in the Philippines.

On July 2nd Australian Horn outlasted Pacquiao 117-111,115-113,115-113 score, however the decision drew criticism from fans of Pacquiao along with many international athletes, who expressed disappointment on social media and sports forum over the fight result. And after hearing sentiments from boxing fans, GAB decided to urge a review from WBO.

“We would like to echo the stand of many boxing followers on the possible errors of the referee and the judges who officiated the subject fight,” GAB’s letter added.
