Lithuania overpowers Gilas Pilipinas

Lithuania outlasted Gilas Pilipinas, 91-80, in the William Jones Cup on Friday at the Taipei Heping Basketball Gymnasium.

With the speed and accuracy in ball movement, the Lithuanians were able to found their range especially their outside shooting by building as much as 20 points going into the fourth quarter. With the win for Lithuania, Gilas lost its hopes in winning the Jones Cup.

Gilas tried to bounce back in the fourth quarter but Lithuania stayed poise until the end. Mike Myers had 14 pointsa and seven rebounds to lead Gilas. Matthew Wright and RR Pogoy each scored 13 points.

Despite the contributions of Kiefer Ravena who posted 14 points, and five assists, Gilas defense couldn’t stop Lithuania’s offensive attacks. Carl Bryan Cruz had 10 points while Christian Stanhardinger added nine points.

Eigirdas Zukauskas scored 22 points, accumulated seven assists and grabbed four rebounds while Edvinas Seskus added 19 points, four rebounds and four assists.

The Lithuanians controlled the rebounding category by a big margin, 32-23. Furthermore, Lithuania had 19 assists to the Philippines eight.
