JPV Marikina shuts Global Cebu, tops PFL Standings


JVP Marikina FC paced to its 5th straight victory by crushing Global Cebu FC 2-1 in the Philippines Football League (PFL) on Sunday at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Japanese Takashi Odawara led JPV Marikina FC’s offense hitting both the goals. The skipper headed the ball in the 25th minute to secure the first lead for JPV, while he dropped the second goal right after halftime in the 55th minute.

This 5th straight led JPV push Meralco Manila behind and top the championship with 18 points. On the other hand, the Sparks are currently at 2nd spot with 17 points after a 1-1 draw on Sunday.  

Global broke the silence in the 69th minute by scoring one goal in the corner to narrow the gap. This one came from Sekou Sylla. But that was all the team could do in their loss. Now Global dropped to 3-1-2 and 10 points securing the 3rd place.

JPV Marikina’s defender Camelo Taculsame after the victory said –

“Today’s game was very tough. Global is one of the best teams in the PFL but we gave our very best. We are very happy that we’ve reached the number one position tonight and that we’ve gotten our goal today. Now, we’ll focus on next week’s game to try and give our best again. Thank you for the fans that have always supported us,”

“The boys worked really hard to get the win,” said JPV coach Dan Padernal.

In the other Sunday game, Sam Miguel Davao Aguilas FC and Ilocos United FC played to a goalless draw. It was the 3rd straight draw for Davao owing 4 points. While, the draw snapped a five game losing streak for Ilocos just having 2 points from 7 played matches.
