Hotshots rally from 21-point deficit

The Star Hotshots pulled off a nerve-wracking 102-98 come-from-behind victory in OT over the Alaska Aces in the penultimate day of the elimination round at the Cuneta Astrodome on Wednesday.

The Hotshots rallied from a 21-point deficit into tying the game in the regulation to stay atop of the standings with a 9-2 record. Ricardo Ratliffe scored 35 points and grabbed a whopping 28 rebounds to lead the Hotshots while Paul Lee added 18 points off the bench.

Justin Melton dropped 12 points while Ian Sangalang posted 10 points to solidify the scoring for the Hotshots as they kept on knocking at the door until they seized the lead.

While the Aces posted a 21-point lead but the Hotshots recovered cut their deficit into 17 before going into the final quarter, 73-56.

With a 22-4 spurt in the fourth quarter, the Hotshots captured the lead with 5:41 left through Jio Jajalon’s three-pointer. It was this time that the Hotshots were rejuvenated and possessed the momentum and even took a five-point lead. However, the Aces were not letting up as they tied the game with just 53 ticks left. Both teams couldn’t score that the game went into overtime.

Melton and Lee started strong as the Hotshots had a four-point lead. Calvin Abueva brought Alaska on top by a point with 51 seconds left but Melton delivered again for Star.

Cory Jefferson scored 21 points while Abueva topped the Aces with 22 points. Chris Banchero had 19 points in a losing cause.
