EAC trounces St. Benilde

First impression is the last impression, that’s what Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals wanted to prove by frustrating the College of Saint Benilde Blazers, 74-64 in the 93rd Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at Filoil Flying V Center on Friday, which was the best start in the school history of EAC.

Sidney Onwubere and Hamadou Laminou played all over the court like veteran. The Cameroonian student-athlete Laminou peaked the Generals with a nearby triple-double mode adding 21 points, 13 rebounds, and seven blocks. He displayed no sign of ill effect due to MCL injury he incurred in the pre-season.

The utility forward Onwubere contributed a double-double along with 11 points, and 13 rebounds, while his batch mate Francis Munsayac contributed 9 points, 6 assists and 2 rebounds.

Coach Ariel Sison, who is extremely confident about his team entering Final Four said –

“I’m so thankful that they responded well,”

“We’re hoping that we can make it to the Final Four. We’re doing our best in our practices and we’re hoping that we can do well this year.”

Laminou on the other hand, admitted that his best is yet to come –

“Right now, I’m not really 100 percent percent but I’m trying my best,”

“I get all my confidence from my teammates. We hope to make it (to the Final Four) this year.

Even after the victory, EAC needs lot of practice to avoid mistakes during their next take. The team overall committed 31 turnovers, Laminou and Onwubere had 6 errors each, while Francis Munsayac and Onwubere were at technical fouls.

Clement Leutcheu led St. Benilde, with 9 points and 8 rebounds as the team fell to 1-1 in the season.
