CEU persuades 3rd straight, defeats AMA

Centro Escolar University notched its third straight win by frustrating AMA Online Education, 100-85 in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

CEU found some much-needed basket from Congolese center Rod Ebondo in the fourth quarter as he nailed a game-sealing triple with just 1.00 remaining to allow CEU to down AMA and capture their third straight win.

Overall Ebondo contributed game-high 27 points on top of 22 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals. JK Casiño was another man to add 22 points, while Christian Uri and Mark Cruz both smashed 14 points and 6 boards each for CEU (3-2).

The Scorpions managed to attain 30 points in the 2nd quarter to pull away, 51-37 by half time. They led by as many as 20 points, 69-49, with 3:40 left to enter the 3rd quarter.

AMA’s Mario Bonleon and Renzo Subido however got the team back on the track by bridging the gap to as low as eight, 95-83, all because of and-1 play delivered by Ivan Villanueva with still 2:41 left to play.

Coach Yong Garcia said –

We still have lots of lpases that we have to correct, so we have to continue pushing ourselves in practice, especially with our decision making,”

In the other game, Cignal Hawkeyes defeated Wangs Basketball, 94-69 to gain its 4th consecutive win.

Currently, Cignal is in the top four of the 11-team in the D-League with a 6-2 record, while CEU swayed to solo 5th after losing its first 2 matches.
