Biado brings Philippines a gold medal in World Games

Carlo Biado captured the first gold medal for the Philippines in the World Games in Wroclaw, Poland.

Biado, 33, defeated Great Britain’s Jayson Shaw, 11-7, in the 9-ball men’s pool finals Saturday. This is the first gold medal for the Philippines in the history of pool. Not even Dennis Orcollo got into this level after he won bronze in the 9-ball men’s tournament in 2014 in Cali, Columbia.

Before getting into the finals, Biado overpowered Japan’s Oi Naoyuka, 11-7, to set a battle with Shaw, who posted an 11-6 win over Taipei’s Ko Pin-Yi.

Biado, who reached on the pinnacle for a moment in 2015, was one of the eight players chosen from Asia to play in the World Games based on the rankings.

On the other hand, Chezka Centeno lost the podium chance after dropping to China’s Han Yu, 93, in the struggle for the bronze.
